Reaffirming the Skhirat Agreement as a Path to Stability

During the meeting, Ambassador Arrouchi highlighted Morocco’s ongoing diplomatic efforts, from the Bouznika talks to recent discussions between representatives from Tripoli and eastern Libya. He emphasized that the December 17, 2015 Skhirat Agreement, brokered under UN auspices, remains the cornerstone for achieving a lasting resolution to Libya’s turmoil.

The ambassador underscored the importance of preserving Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, stressing that military solutions would only exacerbate the crisis. He praised the African Union’s role in fostering peace and stability across the continent, particularly in Libya, where sustained political dialogue is essential.

Diplomatic Initiatives Paving the Way for Unity

Arrouchi also referenced the landmark January 7, 2026 agreement signed in Tripoli between representatives of the Government of National Unity and the eastern Libyan government. This accord followed a series of reconciliation meetings in Tripoli and Zenten, further solidifying efforts toward national cohesion.

The Moroccan delegation reiterated its support for Libya’s political process, aligning its actions with the principles of the Skhirat Agreement and the Bouznika understandings. The Kingdom called for continued international backing to advance these efforts, ensuring they remain rooted in international legality and diplomatic frameworks.
