17 Galian trophies in 15 years: Sié Frédéric Kambou extends Burkina 24’s legacy
The 29th edition of the Galian Awards once again celebrated journalistic excellence in Burkina Faso on Friday, June 19, 2026, in Ouagadougou. Among the winners of this prestigious competition was Sié Frédéric Kambou, a journalist for Burkina 24, who received the Special Prize from the Ministry of Health in the Online Press category.
This award recognized his report titled “In Burkina Faso, health comes out of the shadow of privilege!” published on December 26, 2025. Through this field investigation, the journalist highlighted reforms undertaken in the health sector, notably the reduction in costs for several medical examinations and the elimination of the deposit requirement for dialysis sessions in public health facilities.

Visibly moved upon receiving his trophy, Sié Frédéric Kambou dedicated this distinction to all his colleagues at Burkina 24.
“I am so moved to receive this prize. I dedicate it to the entire editorial team of Burkina 24 and to the editors-in-chief who motivate us greatly. It wasn’t easy, but thank God, I made it. This is my first award and I am really happy. I encourage everyone to apply and aim for excellence”, he said.

This distinction recognizes not only the journalist’s professionalism and rigor but also the collective work within Burkina 24 to provide quality, useful information close to citizens’ concerns.
The ceremony also marked the awarding of the Super Galian 2026 to Aïcha Diombélé/Kabré of RTB Radio in national languages. For Burkina 24, the prize won by Sié Frédéric Kambou represents further recognition of the media outlet’s commitment to responsible and excellent journalism.

By adding his name to the Galian winners’ list, Sié Frédéric Kambou helps strengthen Burkina 24’s influence in the Burkinabè media landscape and confirms the outlet’s position as a reference for news in Burkina Faso.
This precious trophy brings the total number of Galian awards won by the leading online media outlet to 17 in 15 years of existence, not counting a dozen other trophies. The journey continues.
