African debate: Niger attack, DRC referendum, US-Iran deal, EU migration
This week’s African debate highlights: The Support Group for Islam and Muslims (Jnim) has claimed responsibility for Thursday’s attack on Niamey airport, exactly six months after an earlier assault by the Islamic State. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Senate has approved a bill to regulate referendums for a constitutional revision, following its adoption by the National Assembly earlier in June. The reform could pave the way for a third presidential term.

On the nuclear programme, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the unfreezing of Iranian assets – what is known about the draft agreement being discussed between the United States and Iran?
In Europe, migration policies are tightening. Sweden’s parliament recently passed two laws to facilitate migrant deportations. This trend is also visible at the European Union level, where authorities are considering setting up centres outside the bloc to transfer undocumented migrants.
