Abdelkader Djellaoui, Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, commenced a two-day working visit to the Republic of Chad on Wednesday. Leading a high-level delegation, the minister’s agenda focused on exploring practical avenues to implement joint infrastructure initiatives, with particular emphasis on the crucial Trans-Saharan Road project.

This pivotal visit aligns with the directives issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and builds upon discussions held during the recent trip of the Chadian President to Algeria. It underscores a shared commitment to fostering concrete and pragmatic bilateral cooperation, ultimately driving development across both nations.

Minister Djellaoui, accompanied by Abed Hallouz, Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development (AICA), landed at Hassan Djamous International Airport in N’Djamena on Wednesday evening. He received a warm welcome from Amir Idriss Kourda, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Disenclavement, and Road Maintenance, alongside several other Chadian officials.

The Algerian delegation features over 14 seasoned experts and engineers. This marks their second visit to the Republic of Chad, continuing the specialized assessments initiated during their prior trip. The group includes the CEOs of « Cosider travaux publics » and the National Public Works Company (SNTP), as well as the Director General of the National Technical Control Body for Public Works (CTTP).

The public works sector stands as a cornerstone of cooperation between Algeria and Chad, serving as a primary driver for economic integration. Algeria maintains a strong interest in the Trans-Saharan Road project, recognizing its strategic importance as a lasting link for the economies of both nations and the wider region. Consequently, this visit will predominantly focus on the tangible implementation of two specific sections of the Trans-Saharan Road within Chadian territory, which are vital segments of this continental artery.

Leveraging the extensive experience its national enterprises have accumulated in constructing major road infrastructure, particularly in challenging Saharan environments, Algeria is dedicating its expertise and technical prowess to this ambitious project. The goal is to facilitate a significant transformation and vigorously boost regional trade and exchanges.

Ultimately, the visit is anticipated to yield concrete outcomes that will significantly bolster Algeria-Chad cooperation in the critical areas of infrastructure and public works.
