Algeria and Chad boost infrastructure ties with new agreement

Algeria and Chad have formalized a landmark agreement to fast-track infrastructure development projects during a high-level meeting in N’Djamena on Thursday. The deal focuses on streamlining cooperation in public works and critical infrastructure initiatives, marking a significant step in bilateral ties.

The memorandum, unveiled by Algeria’s Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, reinforces commitments made during last April’s joint agreements. It aims to accelerate project execution through enhanced collaboration and shared expertise.

Trans-Saharan highway project gains momentum with feasibility studies

The agreement was signed by Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, and Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Road Unblocking, and Maintenance, Amir Idriss Kourda. The signing took place during a coordination meeting in N’Djamena, held on the second day of Algeria’s official working visit to Chad. Key attendees included the Director-General of Algeria’s Agency for International Cooperation and Solidarity, the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, and representatives from Cosider Group and National Public Works Company (SNTP).

Chad’s delegation included a deputy minister overseeing infrastructure and senior officials. During discussions, Chad’s minister highlighted the “rapid implementation pace” of bilateral agreements, citing tangible progress since their April 22 signing in Algiers. He pointed to mutual technical visits and the initiation of feasibility studies for the Trans-Saharan Highway, which will traverse Chad, as key milestones.
