Dakar mayor criticizes indiscipline after prime minister Sonko’s early exit from patriotic walk

Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko made an unexpected early departure from the patriotic walking tour organized by Dakar Mayor Abass Fall on Sunday, May 17, 2026. This significant event was themed “the walk towards 2029”, setting a forward-looking tone for participants.

Eyewitness accounts confirmed that the head of government was unable to complete the walk alongside other attendees due to considerable overcrowding and a general lack of order observed at the scene.

Dakar’s Mayor, Abass Fall, voiced his profound disappointment regarding the situation, openly condemning the unruly behavior displayed by some of those present.

« We face a genuine challenge here. It’s simply unacceptable to invite an esteemed authority figure only for people to exhibit such indiscipline. This is not how things should be. We gathered for a walk, so why can’t individuals maintain discipline? He departed precisely because of this,” the Mayor firmly stated.

When a journalist inquired about the evident affection militants held for Ousmane Sonko, Abass Fall responded with a pointed observation: « Affection must be tempered with intelligence. One needs to be intelligent. This truly is a serious issue! »
