DR Congo’s president Tshisekedi joins luanda peace summit in Angola
President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) arrived in Luanda, Angola, on July 16, 2026, at the invitation of Angolan counterpart João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço. The trip comes as part of the third edition of the global initiative ‘A Call for Peace: Ending Wars and Upholding International Law.’
This high-level gathering brings together heads of state, African Union officials, United Nations representatives, religious leaders, academic experts, and youth delegates. The agenda centers on international peace and security, conflict prevention, reconciliation, and building lasting peace.
The DRC delegation is using the summit to highlight the urgent need for tangible, measurable actions—not just lofty promises—to turn peace efforts into reality across the globe.
Before the official sessions, President Tshisekedi held a private meeting with President Lourenço. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and reviewed security challenges in eastern DRC.
The DRC began its rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council on July 1, 2026. This role arrives amid rising global tensions and a growing demand for restoring trust in the foundational principles that govern international relations.
Hosted by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in partnership with Angola, the Luanda summit runs from July 16 to 17, 2026. The event aims to advance peaceful conflict resolution and showcase how women, youth, and sports can play pivotal roles in sustaining peace worldwide.
