Marina Ferrari, the Minister of Sports, Youth, and Community Life, publicly expressed her strong disapproval on X, labeling the events of Sunday, May 17, as “unacceptable scenes of violence.” This condemnation followed the premature halt of the Nantes-Toulouse football match, part of Ligue 1’s 34th and final day. Supporters of Nantes breached the pitch, deploying flares onto the playing surface, leading to the complete suspension of the game.

Minister Ferrari emphasized that such acts of aggression “have absolutely no place in sports or within our Republic.” She further stated, “I unequivocally condemn these actions and extend my solidarity to the players and the fans who attended seeking a peaceful experience.”

She concluded by asserting, “Everyone involved must take responsibility to identify those behind these violent acts, who will face the most severe penalties.” At the 22nd minute mark, with the score tied at 0-0, supporters from the Tribune Loire section of the Beaujoire stadium stormed the pitch. Nantes, already relegated to Ligue 2, was in 17th place, while 10th-placed Toulouse had no further stakes in the season. After a brief period, the Nantes fans retreated to their stands, which were then secured by numerous CRS officers; however, minor skirmishes still occurred.

Notably, the Minister refrained from commenting on other disturbances that marred the evening, including a similar pitch invasion by Nice supporters following their match against Auxerre at the Allianz Riviera.
