She suffered a third stroke on Monday, 22 June 2026, and passed away, according to family sources.
The MRC opposition party is grieving the loss of one of its most passionate supporters. I have learned that “Maman Kamto”—as she was affectionately known—died following a cerebrovascular accident (CVA), her third in recent months.
She first came into the public eye in 2025 during a protest held outside the MRC regional headquarters at Grand Moulin in Douala, Cameroon’s economic capital. MRC leader Maurice Kamto, returning from a European tour, had intended to stop at the office but was blocked by police. Supporters gathered to voice their anger, and Maman Kamto stood at the forefront, holding a peace branch and facing down security forces.
Beyond that moment of defiance, she was also known for regularly visiting political prisoners detained in connection with the post-election crisis. More details on her life and legacy are to come.
