Diplomatic ties between Morocco and Gambia have entered a new phase of cooperation in Rabat. Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita met on Thursday with his Gambian counterpart, Sering Modou Njie, who travelled to the kingdom’s capital as a special envoy of President Adama Barrow.

The centrepiece of the visit was the handover of a written message from the Gambian head of state addressed directly to King Mohammed VI, highlighting the close communication between the two leaders.

Explicit thanks for Morocco’s socio-economic support

After the meeting, the Gambian foreign minister addressed the media to convey his government’s and people’s gratitude to the Alaouite monarch.

Njie praised Morocco’s unwavering support for Gambia’s socio‑economic development, stressing that this commitment yields concrete results through the signing of numerous bilateral agreements and the implementation of strategic projects that already benefit the population. These joint initiatives are closely coordinated under the strategic guidance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad.

Shared vision for stronger regional cooperation

During his remarks, the Gambian minister emphasised his country’s firm resolve to keep strengthening cooperation ties in areas of mutual interest.

He stated that the current relations are not only excellent but also rest on strong values of brotherhood, solidarity and mutual benefit, faithfully reflecting the shared forward‑looking vision of King Mohammed VI and President Adama Barrow for the well‑being of both peoples. This bilateral roadmap for partnership and regional growth aligns directly with the diplomatic priorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad.
