Ousmane sonko spearheads Sénégal’s africa forward summit delegation to Nairobi

Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko recently presided over the official send-off for the Senegalese delegation bound for Nairobi. This pivotal “Africa Forward” summit, a high-level assembly, is scheduled to run until May 13, 2026, in Kenya, convening heads of state, prominent financial backers, and key private sector stakeholders. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who is already on site, will be joined by a dedicated ministerial team and financial experts, all committed to articulating a transformative vision on the international stage.

Before their departure, the head of government, Ousmane Sonko, emphatically laid out an unambiguous strategic directive, firmly rooted in the nation’s sovereignty project. He declared, “Our mission in Nairobi is to uphold a clear principle: there can be no true development without sovereignty, and no genuine sovereignty without autonomous financing.” For Dakar, the objective extends beyond mere participation; it aims to profoundly influence the redefinition of the continent’s financing mechanisms, striving to eliminate conditionalities deemed stifling for African economies.

The “Africa Forward” summit marks the inauguration of an unprecedented dialogue format between the African continent and France. Discussions are set to address pressing issues such as debt restructuring, the funding of crucial infrastructure projects, the ongoing energy transition, and critical peace challenges. Sénégal is poised to advocate for more equitable public-private partnerships (PPPs), designed to mobilize essential resources while simultaneously safeguarding the nation’s strategic decision-making autonomy.
