Senegal politics: former PM Sonko elected assembly president

Just four days after being removed from his position as Prime Minister by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has reclaimed his seat in the National Assembly—and swiftly ascended to its presidency. In his inaugural address, Sonko emphasized his willingness to engage in dialogue with the Head of State.
