Ousmane Sonko launched a political tour this Saturday, making his first stop in Bargny before heading to Sébikotane, Khombole, and Bambey. The Pastef party leader left Keur Gorgui to meet with activists and boost efforts in selling party membership cards.
In Bargny, the former Prime Minister faced a sea of enthusiastic supporters and political figures. Addressing the crowd, he emphasized that his visit aimed to energize the membership drive campaign, which he described as crucial for the party’s future. « This initiative is not just about numbers; it’s about securing our political future », he declared.
Sonko avoided lengthy speeches, urging local leaders and activists to focus entirely on the campaign. « I came to encourage you, not to speak at length. Every card sold brings us closer to victory in the coming elections, » he stated, underscoring the campaign’s role in shaping electoral outcomes.
The opposition leader also honored the resilience of Bargny’s residents, acknowledging their struggles under the previous administration. « I have not forgotten what you endured during Macky Sall’s time. Your perseverance will not go unnoticed, » he affirmed.
Pastef’s political vision and challenges ahead
Sonko acknowledged the hurdles facing Pastef’s ambitious project, from accountability concerns to political violence and development priorities. « We are not yet fully equipped for the scale of our ambitions, » he admitted, while reaffirming confidence in the party’s momentum since taking office.
Urging militants to remain disciplined amid political tensions, he stressed that the membership drive was vital for consolidating the party’s vision. « We are 80% toward our goal. The remaining 20% depends on your commitment—do not waiver, » he concluded, calling for unwavering focus despite provocations.
