Unesco Mali champions youth excellence in science and innovation competition

UNESCO Mali participates in the 16th inter-high school excellence competition at ENI-ABT.

This gathering brought together students, educators, academic leaders, and various partners, all united by a shared commitment to nurturing excellence in science and innovation among Mali’s young generation.

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the UNESCO Office in Mali proudly attended the awards ceremony for the 16th Inter-High School Excellence Competition. Held at the École Nationale d’Ingénieurs Abderhamane Baba Touré (ENI-ABT), the event was orchestrated by the ENI-ABT UNESCO Club. This significant occasion united pupils, university students, teaching staff, academic authorities, and collaborative partners, all dedicated to advancing excellence in science and innovation among Malian youth.

During his opening address, Dr. Kélétigui DAOU, Director General of ENI-ABT, extended gratitude to UNESCO for its involvement in the initiative. He commended the Organization’s unwavering dedication to educational advancement across Mali, specifically highlighting UNESCO’s initiatives to broaden access for girls in STIM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, alongside fostering scientific research and innovation among young people.

The ceremony also featured remarks from the Secretary General of the ENI-ABT UNESCO Club. She underscored the profound significance of this 16th edition in celebrating academic merit and excellence. Furthermore, she emphasized the crucial role that UNESCO Clubs play in cultivating values of citizenship, peace, and sustainable development within the community.

Mme Oumou Dicko, UNESCO’s Programs Officer for Sciences, conveyed her congratulations to both the organizers for the successful execution of this edition and to the students for their consistent dedication. She outlined various research-focused opportunities UNESCO provides to young individuals, including scholarships, mentorship programs, and engagement in the Organization’s international commemorative days. Her address concluded with a powerful encouragement for students to deepen their involvement in scientific and innovative disciplines, thereby contributing meaningfully to their nation’s progress.
