WAPCO Niger continues its “healthy communities” public interest activities
WAPCO (Niger), in collaboration with the local livestock office, recently concluded a highly successful campaign focused on animal vaccination and deworming within the Zinder region. This vital initiative reached seven pastoral encampments, including N’Guel Eléfi and Tesker, delivering essential services to over 10,000 animals. The event marks the successful completion of the first phase of WAPCO (Niger)’s impactful “Healthy Communities” public interest activities, which have now extended their reach to all areas traversed by the pipeline.
To further enhance the health management capabilities of local populations, WAPCO (Niger) has proactively integrated its own medical resources. Leveraging on-site medical personnel and essential medicines, the company launched two pilot projects offering free community medical consultations near pumping stations 5 and 6 in early 2025. These consultations were met with an overwhelmingly positive response from residents. Building on the success of these pilots, a broader needs assessment was conducted, leading to the official commencement of the first phase of the comprehensive “Healthy Communities” program in August 2025. To date, WAPCO (Niger) has facilitated a total of seven free community medical consultations, providing healthcare services to 1,249 local residents, and has generously donated a tricycle ambulance to a local community health center.
During the implementation of these free consultation initiatives, the company’s team recognized that livestock represents a fundamental source of income and a critical livelihood for local families, highlighting the urgent need for animal care among herders. Responding directly to these community concerns, WAPCO (Niger) strategically expanded the scope of its “Healthy Communities” activities. In partnership with local livestock authorities and other relevant organizations, WAPCO (Niger) delivered vaccination and deworming services to more than 20,000 animals across three major pastoral gathering points situated along the pipeline route, thereby assisting herders in safeguarding their essential productive assets.

As a committed corporate citizen, WAPCO (Niger) has consistently upheld a philosophy of mutually beneficial cooperation and shared development since its inception. While ensuring the secure and stable operation of the pipeline, the company places significant emphasis on fulfilling its social responsibilities. WAPCO (Niger) continuously champions the Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP), executes public interest donations, and provides aid to communities. The company actively contributes to enhancing local livelihoods and fostering social advancement, thereby consistently strengthening the population’s “sense of gain” and cultivating a supportive external environment for the pipeline’s safe operation.
Looking ahead, WAPCO (Niger) is dedicated to further refining its community needs assessments to precisely address the expectations of populations residing along the pipeline. The company plans to steadily broaden the scope of its public interest activities, ensuring that more residents can partake in the benefits of development. While guaranteeing the safe and efficient flow of this vital energy artery, WAPCO (Niger) will continue to work collaboratively with the community, implementing tangible actions to promote improved livelihoods and foster mutual growth and shared development between WAPCO (Niger) and the communities it serves.
