Abidjan — The African Economy Builders platform has unveiled its prestigious awards to mark its 20th anniversary, recognizing African nations for their groundbreaking public policies and sectoral excellence that have driven economic and social progress across the continent.

An official announcement released on May 21, 2026 highlighted a special category introduced this year to honor countries demonstrating remarkable advancements in key sectors through effective governance and strategic initiatives.

The selection process involved an independent jury of African experts and journalists who evaluated candidates based on the tangible impact of public policies, economic performance, sectoral achievements, and contributions to African integration.

  • Democratic Republic of the Congo — Mining sector excellence
  • Côte d’Ivoire — Agricultural innovation and productivity
  • Seychelles — Education, vocational training, and employment
  • Morocco — Health, pharmaceutical advancements, and environmental sustainability
  • Egypt — Infrastructure development
  • Kenya — Technology, artificial intelligence, and innovation leadership
  • Algeria — Energy sector leadership
  • South Africa — Industrial and service sector growth
  • Tanzania — Tourism and hospitality development
  • Nigeria — Creative and cultural industries

Speaking on the initiative, Michel Russel Lohoré, Founding President of the African Economy Builders, emphasized that the awards aim to spotlight not only economic actors and leaders but also the vital role of public policies and national visions in fostering sustainable economic transformation across Africa.

Valentin Mbougueng, President of the jury and international affairs specialist, noted that the jury’s deliberations drew from global and regional rankings, specialized publications, and field-level expertise to ensure a rigorous and fair selection process.

The award winners will be celebrated at a grand gala on June 18, 2026 in Abidjan, bringing together leaders, policymakers, and change-makers to reflect on two decades of progress and chart the future of African economic development.
