Pope Leo XIV has appointed Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya as a member of the Section for the First Evangelization and the New Particular Churches within the Dicastery for Evangelization — a move that Akere Muna has warmly welcomed.

Andrew Nkea Fuanya has been elevated by Pope Leo XIV. The prelate was named a member of the Section for the First Evangelization and the New Particular Churches of the Dicastery for Evangelization. His mission will be to assist the Holy See in nurturing young churches and guiding global missionary efforts.

This appointment drew praise from Akere Muna, a prominent Cameroonian civil society figure. The lawyer described it as a profound recognition of the archbishop’s pastoral wisdom, tireless service, and unwavering dedication to the Church. He also called it a powerful testament to the light that Nkea continues to bring to Cameroon, Africa, and the universal Church.

“I am convinced that in this new mission, he will continue to serve with the same courage, clarity, and paternal compassion that have characterized his ministry over the years,” Muna wrote. Archbishop Nkea was appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Bamenda in 2019. He was elected president of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon on April 30, 2022, and has been a leading figure in peace dialogue in Cameroon’s crisis-affected regions.
