Barrages de Ligue 1 : Old incertain, Tardieu de retour avec l’ASSE pour défier Nice

Following their hard-fought victory in the Ligue 2 play-offs against Rodez (0-0, 7-6 on penalties), AS Saint-Étienne is now gearing up to challenge OGC Nice in the decisive Ligue 1 playoffs. Head coach Philippe Montanier provided an update on his squad this Monday, just before the first leg. Ben Old, the New Zealand left-back, remains a doubt for Tuesday’s match at Geoffroy-Guichard after suffering a hamstring injury against Rodez. A final fitness test this Tuesday morning will determine his availability.

The Greens will, however, welcome back Florian Tardieu. The experienced midfielder, sidelined since early March with a calf injury, is now operational and ready to contribute. Unfortunately, young forward Djylian N’Guessan will be unavailable, having picked up a fresh hamstring injury.

Questions also linger regarding the international players who are either currently with their national teams or awaiting World Cup selection. Their participation in Tuesday’s first leg remains uncertain. “We are still awaiting news, discussions are ongoing,” Montanier confirmed. This uncertainty particularly affects Ben Old (New Zealand), Augustine Boakye (Ghana), and Ebenezer Annan (Ghana).
