Bénin constitutional court reviews April presidential election lessons

The Constitutional Court of Bénin concluded a five-day seminar in Agoué on Friday, July 17, evaluating the April 12 presidential election process.

During the intensive workshop, Constitutional Court justices meticulously reviewed the entire electoral process to identify strengths, challenges, and opportunities for enhancement ahead of future votes. The closing ceremony was led by Vice-President Nicolas Assogba, standing in for President Dorothé Sossa, who was unavailable.

Strengthening electoral procedures through evaluation

Vice-President Assogba commended the seminar’s productive outcomes, emphasizing that rigorous evaluation is vital for institutional improvement. Citing management expert Peter Drucker, he stated, “What isn’t measured cannot be improved.”

Participants proposed several recommendations to refine electoral procedures and strengthen the court’s legal precedents. Assogba also announced the formation of a dedicated committee to analyze the workshop’s findings in detail.

Future electoral guidelines take shape

Once approved by the court’s general assembly, these recommendations will be compiled into a new electoral procedures manual. This document will serve as the benchmark for upcoming elections, ensuring greater clarity and consistency in the electoral framework.
