Benin details allegations against Kemi Seba and pursues extradition
Following the detention of Kemi Seba (born Robert Gilles Stellio Capo Chichi) in Pretoria, the government of Benin has officially broken its silence. During a briefing following the Council of Ministers on April 22, 2026, spokesperson Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji expressed a sense of firm composure, remarking philosophically that “Heaven itself has settled our disputes.”
The primary charges brought by the Beninese state
Moving beyond a standard diplomatic response, the administration has clarified the specific grounds for seeking the activist’s return. The authorities primarily accuse Seba of engaging in subversive activities and rhetoric that jeopardize the stability of republican institutions. He is further accused of repeatedly making statements that incite public insurrection and threaten general civil order.
Additionally, there are serious suspicions concerning his involvement with external entities aimed at undermining the nation’s security framework. The state also highlighted his direct verbal assaults on government authority, which are interpreted as a deliberate attempt to erode national social cohesion.
The formal extradition process begins
Benin is taking a proactive stance in this legal matter. Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji confirmed that both judicial and diplomatic departments have been mobilized to facilitate his extradition. “We are awaiting the conclusion of international legal procedures so that the individual can answer for his actions and statements before the Beninese justice system,” the spokesperson emphasized.
For the administration in Porto-Novo, the objective is clear: to return Kemi Seba to national soil to face the serious allegations regarding national security and internal stability. This judicial standoff between the activist and his country of origin has now entered a pivotal stage.
