Continuing its streak of hosting major global events, Cameroon is now preparing for the 51st General Assembly of the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF). This significant international conference is scheduled to be held in Yaoundé from July 7 to 12, 2026.

In line with these preparations, André-Magnus Ekoumou, Cameroon’s ambassador to France, met with Théodore Datouo, the President of the National Assembly. Their discussions focused primarily on the country’s state of readiness for the upcoming assembly.

Both dignitaries conveyed their optimism about Cameroon’s ability to meet the demands of hosting the event, highlighting that preparations are proceeding under the guidance of President Paul Biya.

To ensure smooth logistics, the Cameroonian embassy in France has implemented special procedures to facilitate the issuance of courtesy visas for all attending delegations.

The President of the National Assembly also took the opportunity to emphasize the need to bolster parliamentary democracy. He praised Ambassador Ekoumou for his engagement with the Cameroonian diaspora in France, especially concerning their participation in Promote 2026, a major business summit at the Yaoundé Convention Centre.

Further talks covered the potential creation of a parliamentary museum at the National Assembly. The head of the lower house expressed interest in drawing upon French expertise, particularly through the exchange of knowledge and best practices, with a strong focus on digitalizing the proposed museum.

One of the critical outcomes of the session will be the election of a new Secretary-General for the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF). The Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda are considered the primary African contenders for the leadership role.
