Cameroon’s leader delegates to crucial AU summit
Following his recent return to Yaoundé, President Paul Biya will not be physically present at the 21st extraordinary session of the African Union’s Conference of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for August 30. Instead, the Cameroonian Head of State has entrusted Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute with the mandate to articulate Cameroon’s position at this significant gathering in Luanda.
The Head of Government departed from Yaoundé on Saturday, embarking on his journey to Luanda, Angola. This special session is specifically dedicated to bolstering Africa’s strategies for conflict prevention and resolution. Key discussions will address various ongoing crises, including the persistent Boko Haram insurgency in Cameroon’s Far North region and the escalating separatist crisis affecting the country’s Anglophone regions.
Following his engagement in Angola, the Prime Minister is set to travel to Serbia. There, he will again represent President Paul Biya at a high-level meeting commemorating the 65th anniversary of the inaugural Conference of Heads of State and Government of Non-Aligned Countries. This event is scheduled to take place in Belgrade from August 31 to September 1, 2026.
