Chad sonelgaz launches tri-fuel power plant studies in N’Djamena

Tchad’s energy future brightens with Sonelgaz’s 40 MW tri-fuel plant initiative

N’Djamena is set to gain a significant energy boost through a strategic collaboration with Algeria’s Sonelgaz. A high-level delegation, led by Sonelgaz International CEO Yazid Djellouli, recently visited the Chadian capital to finalize technical assessments and operational timelines with Tchad-Elec representatives.

Why a tri-fuel power plant matters for N’Djamena

The upcoming 40 MW facility stands out for its tri-fuel technology, enabling seamless operation with natural gas, liquid fuels, or alternative energy sources. For a city grappling with frequent power outages and rising demand, this adaptability ensures uninterrupted electricity supply, regardless of fuel availability. Whether sourced locally or imported, the plant’s versatility provides a robust solution to Chad’s energy security challenges.

A partnership built on knowledge sharing

Beyond electricity generation, this agreement emphasizes technical skill transfer. Sonelgaz, renowned for its expertise in managing large-scale power networks across North Africa, will support Chad’s Société Nationale d’Électricité (SNE) in maintenance and operational optimization. The goal? To enhance the technical independence of Chadian professionals, ensuring the long-term viability of the project and fostering self-reliance in energy management.

Economic sovereignty through diversified energy solutions

The project’s impact extends beyond infrastructure—it’s a step toward Chad’s economic resilience. By embracing flexible, multi-fuel technology and expanding its energy partnerships, Chad aims to curb reliance on expensive fossil fuels while stabilizing its national grid. This development signals a positive shift in the business climate, reinforcing reliable energy access as a cornerstone for industrial growth and national prosperity.
