CPDP unveils plan to stabilize Chad’s political climate
The Permanent Framework for Political Dialogue (CPDP) in Chad has broken its silence five months after its official launch. In a press briefing held this Saturday, June 13, 2026, its chairman, Pahimi Padacké Albert, unveiled a roadmap designed to restore trust and revitalize Chad’s democratic landscape through sweeping reforms.
A mission rooted in consensus
Established under the May 13, 2025 Political Agreement Protocol, the CPDP brings together all legally registered political parties in Chad. With a balanced 30-member coordination—15 from the presidential majority and 15 from the democratic opposition—the body aims to serve as the driving force behind much-needed political calm. As Padacké Albert emphasized, « Without a peaceful climate, without fair electoral reforms, and without inclusivity, no political dialogue can rebuild trust sustainably. »
Three pillars for transformative change
The roadmap outlines three core priorities:
- Electoral overhaul: The centerpiece of the strategy is a comprehensive reform of the electoral system. This includes revamping the bodies responsible for elections, updating the electoral code, reallocating National Assembly seats, redefining Senate representation, and adjusting constituency boundaries. The goal is to align Chad’s electoral rules with international transparency standards.
- Supportive safeguards: To ensure a credible process, the CPDP plans to establish a reliable electoral register and introduce equitable funding mechanisms for political parties.
- Cross-cutting initiatives: Sustainability and inclusivity are key. The CPDP will work closely with state institutions and technical partners while maintaining an open dialogue with political parties that did not initially sign the protocol.
Mobilizing citizens for lasting change
To turn these plans into reality, Padacké Albert called for « strong political will » at all levels and urged the media to widely disseminate the roadmap. « Every citizen must understand the CPDP’s role and actions, » he stated. The body is now preparing a detailed action plan with clear timelines and implementation methods. Whether this commitment to dialogue can ease long-standing tensions and foster lasting stability within Chad’s political class remains to be seen.
