Since the official declaration of the Ebola Bundibugyo virus outbreak on May 15 in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, rapid response measures have been implemented across affected health zones in Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. As of today, 19 patients have recovered and been discharged from the Ebola Treatment Center (ETC), according to the National Institute of Public Health (INSP).

As of June 7, health data shows 550 confirmed cases with 101 deaths recorded across the affected health zones. Currently, 309 patients remain in isolation for treatment.

Ituri remains the epicenter of the outbreak. Of the 25 affected health zones, 17 are located in this province, representing nearly half of Ituri’s 36 health zones.

The most affected areas include Aru, Aungba, Bambu, Bunia, Damas, Gety, Kilo, Komanda, Lita, Logo, Mambasa, Mangala, Mongbwalu, Nizi, Nyankunde, Rimba, and Rwampara.

Current response efforts

The coordinated response involves multiple health partners working to contain the spread through isolation, contact tracing, and community engagement. Health authorities continue to emphasize the importance of hygiene measures and early reporting to curb transmission.
