French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu landed in Rabat on Wednesday evening for a two-day official visit aimed at revitalizing the strategic partnership between France and Morocco amid a period of growing diplomatic rapprochement.
Warmly received by Morocco’s head of government Aziz Akhannouch, Lecornu is leading a delegation of twelve French ministers. This visit follows years of fluctuating relations between Paris and Rabat as both nations seek to deepen cooperation.
During his stay, Sébastien Lecornu and Aziz Akhannouch will hold a bilateral meeting before jointly chairing the 15th High-Level French-Moroccan Meeting. This key dialogue platform, central to political and economic coordination between the two countries, has not convened since 2019.
Discussions will focus on expanding economic exchanges, fostering mutual investments, enhancing security and defense cooperation, and addressing energy, infrastructure, and ecological transition challenges.
French and Moroccan officials have announced that around fifteen agreements are expected to be signed, covering civil aviation, water management, strategic infrastructure, electricity interconnection, security cooperation, and several cultural projects.
In the cultural sphere, both nations intend to finalize a strategic partnership between the Arab World Institute in Paris and Morocco’s Ministry of Culture. This collaboration aims to strengthen artistic, heritage, and academic exchanges between the two countries.
