Following his official duties in Antananarivo, where he stood in for the President during Madagascar’s 66th independence anniversary festivities, Hermann Immongault, the Vice-President of the Government, engaged with Gabonese nationals residing on the island. This direct engagement provided an opportunity to discuss the community’s daily challenges and underscored Libreville’s commitment to ongoing dialogue with its citizens abroad.

During the discussions, representatives of the Gabonese diaspora highlighted various challenges faced by those living in Madagascar. Key issues raised included the lack of a permanent consular presence, which complicates numerous administrative procedures. Concerns also centered on Gabonese students, specifically regarding scholarship management, the accreditation of university institutions, and the enhancement of academic exchange programs. Furthermore, community members advocated for strengthened economic relations between Gabon and Madagascar to promote entrepreneurial ventures and reciprocal investments.

A deepening cooperation

In response to these concerns, Hermann Immongault pledged that the various requests would receive thorough consideration from the relevant authorities. He emphasized the importance of deepening engagement between Libreville and Antananarivo, particularly concerning visa policies, scholarships administered by the National Scholarship Agency of Gabon (ANBG), and comprehensive student support. The Vice-President reiterated the government’s strong desire to forge a closer partnership with Madagascar, aligning with the shared vision of both nations’ leaders.

Addressing the business community, Immongault urged Malagasy entrepreneurs to explore the opportunities available in Gabon, particularly within the agri-food and energy sectors. He confirmed that institutional and economic exchanges between the two countries are set to increase significantly in the coming months. This meeting with the diaspora thus forms part of a broader strategy to foster closer ties with Gabonese citizens abroad, demonstrating the authorities’ commitment to leveraging cooperation between Libreville and Antananarivo as a catalyst for development, benefiting the populations and economic stakeholders of both nations.
