A direct challenge to the Pastef leader

Sénégal’s political landscape remains charged amidst ongoing discussions surrounding constitutional reform and the intricate relationships between figures from both the ruling majority and the opposition. This Sunday saw Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly, formerly a prominent leader of the PDS parliamentary group, launch a scathing attack on Ousmane Sonko.

During a highly assertive address, he characterized the Pastef leader as the “greatest manipulator on the political scene,” faulting him for inconsistent stances and a pattern of making unsubstantiated accusations.

Serious allegations concerning sensitive matters

The former deputy brought up several high-profile controversies that have dominated Senegalese political discourse in recent years. These included the Adji Sarr affair, allegations of 10 million F CFA payments to deputies, and the widely circulated rumor of a public account purportedly holding 1,000 billion F CFA.

He asserted that these claims have consistently lacked verifiable proof. “Deputies never received the 10 million he spoke of. That was false,” he declared, casting doubt on the veracity of Ousmane Sonko’s past statements.

Questioning Sonko’s political consistency

Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly further accused the current President of the National Assembly of abandoning some of his earlier positions. He believes that Sonko’s political rhetoric has shifted significantly, now contradicting his initial commitments.

Dolly contends that the former Prime Minister has gradually moved away from the “rupture” ideology he once championed, instead adopting a stance primarily driven by his own political ambitions.

Unveiling past political dealings

The former PDS parliamentary official also shed light on Ousmane Sonko’s historical interactions with other political figures, claiming that discussions took place regarding potential electoral alliances.

He further maintained that these conversations allegedly involved Karim Wade concerning a prospective presidential candidacy, while simultaneously asserting that Sonko was reluctant to see other Pastef leaders represent the party.

Constitutional debate at the heart of tensions

Finally, Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly addressed the contentious issue of constitutional revision. He argued that the current debate extends beyond merely President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, directly impacting the nation’s institutional stability.

Dolly expressed his belief that certain ongoing initiatives aim to fundamentally alter the architecture of power, a prospect he firmly rejects.

“It is not about Diomaye, but about the Constitution,” he concluded decisively.
