High-level talks in Libreville focus on bilateral cooperation and institutional transitions

The President of Madagascar’s Refoundation Process, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, concluded a two-day working visit to Libreville on Friday, engaging in discussions with Gabon’s transitional leader, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. The visit underscores efforts to deepen mutual ties between the two nations.

During the visit, Colonel Randrianirina was granted an audience at the Palais de la Renovation, where both leaders explored avenues to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange insights on governance. A key highlight was a presentation by Professor Guy Rossatanga-Rignault, detailing Gabon’s transition journey and the constitutional restoration process that followed recent political shifts in the country.

President Oligui Nguema reaffirmed Gabon’s commitment to supporting Madagascar as it navigates its own institutional rebuilding phase. In turn, the Malagasy delegation expressed interest in adopting aspects of Gabon’s governance model and strengthening institutional stability.

The leaders concluded their meeting with mutual praise for the existing strong relations between Gabon and Madagascar. This diplomatic engagement comes after Colonel Randrianirina’s rise to power in October 2025, following widespread youth-led protests in Madagascar against former President Andry Rajoelina—protests driven by severe shortages of water and electricity.
