Morocco-gulf forum urges stronger backing for youth-led innovation projects
Call for tailored financing solutions to boost youth entrepreneurship
The Morocco-Gulf Forum on youth economic and social empowerment concluded in Casablanca this week with a resounding call to strengthen financial mechanisms supporting innovative projects led by young entrepreneurs. Key focus areas include sectors such as green economy, blue economy, and digital transformation, where tailored funding solutions are deemed critical for scalable impact.
The three-day event, convened by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication in collaboration with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretariat General, gathered over a hundred participants. These included young innovators, institutional leaders, entrepreneurs, and sector experts from Morocco and GCC member states.
Strategic pillar for sustainable development
Ahmed Aboukrim, Chair of the Forum’s Scientific Committee, highlighted that empowering youth economically and socially has emerged as a cornerstone for addressing economic, social, and technological shifts while advancing sustainable development goals. He emphasized that integrated approaches—spanning education, skills training, employability, entrepreneurship, innovation, and financing—are essential to strengthening national competitiveness.
Discussions underscored the importance of investing in human capital as a long-term strategy to enhance productivity and resilience in emerging economies.
Four high-impact sectors identified for youth-led growth
Workshops during the Forum delved into four strategic sectors identified as key drivers for youth economic empowerment:
- Green economy: Promoting sustainable business models and circular economies.
- Artificial intelligence and digital transformation: Leveraging technology to create high-value jobs.
- Renewable energy and green hydrogen: Accelerating the transition to clean energy systems.
- Blue economy and water resources: Fostering innovation in marine and freshwater technologies.
Recommendations: dedicated funds and specialized incubators
Concrete recommendations included the establishment of dedicated funding instruments for youth-led projects in green, blue, and digital sectors. Other proposals involved expanding joint research and training programs, launching specialized incubators, and implementing common impact indicators to measure progress in youth employment, innovation, and sustainable development.
Participants noted that Morocco’s strategic partnership with GCC countries—combining diverse resources, expertise, and investment capacity—creates a strong foundation for a regional model of cooperation centered on knowledge-based economies and sustainable growth.
UAE delegation commends Morocco’s role
Salma Khalifa Al Ghafli, Head of the UAE delegation, praised the Forum’s organization and Morocco’s warm hospitality, reinforcing the deep fraternal ties between Morocco and GCC nations. She described the event as a prime platform for sharing best practices and fostering partnerships that empower youth, calling investment in young generations the true foundation of a nation’s future.
