A Moroccan parliamentary delegation took part in the 10th Summit of Parliament Presidents and the 19th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), held Saturday and Sunday at the Egyptian Parliament’s headquarters in the new administrative capital.

Led by Abdelmajid Fassi Fihri, Vice President of the Chamber of Representatives, the delegation seized the opportunity to bolster the Kingdom’s presence within the PA-UfM’s structures.

During the event, a Bureau and extended Bureau meeting took place, where the plenary session approved the new PA-UfM Bureau composition for 2026–2030 as well as the leadership of its permanent commissions.

Morocco was elected to the Assembly’s Bureau and entrusted with chairing the Artificial Intelligence Commission, a recognition of the trust placed in Morocco’s parliamentary diplomacy and its prominent position within this Euro-Mediterranean institution.

During the plenary session, Fassi Fihri, speaking on behalf of the Moroccan Parliament, emphasized that the PA-UfM remains a vital framework for strengthening dialogue and cooperation between parliaments on both sides of the Mediterranean.

He highlighted that the chosen themes—artificial intelligence, youth engagement, and parliamentary diplomacy for peace and stability in the Middle East—reflect the collective awareness of the Euro-Mediterranean parliamentary community amid a period of profound transition, extending beyond technological shifts to encompass evolving cultures, influence mechanisms, and decision-making structures.

Fassi Fihri added that under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco continues to modernize its national economy, consolidate digital transformation, and develop technological infrastructure, guided by a strategic vision that positions the knowledge economy as a key driver of sustainable development, enhanced competitiveness, and Morocco’s status as a reliable partner across the Mediterranean, Africa, and the globe.

The Moroccan delegation, which included Chaoui Belassal, Meriem Rmili, Houria Didi, Rabab Aïlal, Salwa Demnati, and Ibrahim Aâba, participated in meetings of various bodies and commissions, contributing to discussions on priority issues for the Mediterranean region: parliamentary diplomacy, artificial intelligence, youth involvement in decision-making, and strengthening security, stability, and shared development.

The sessions concluded with a call to maintain parliamentary coordination among member states and to reinforce the PA-UfM’s role as a dialogue and trust-building platform for security, stability, sustainable development, and shared prosperity among Mediterranean peoples.
