Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, has confirmed the upcoming launch of a cornerstone ceremony for a new 40-megawatt power plant in N’Djamena, Chad. The announcement was made during a recent visit to Niamey, where the minister also participated in the inauguration of the Algerian-Nigerien Solidarity 40-megawatt power plant in Gorou Banda.

Speaking at the event, Adjal highlighted the successful completion of the Niamey project, emphasizing Sonelgaz International’s ability to deliver large-scale energy initiatives across Africa within tight deadlines. He further disclosed that preparations are already underway for additional energy ventures in multiple African countries, with Chad as the first priority, where the 40-megawatt power plant will see its groundbreaking ceremony in the coming days.

The minister underscored the growing demand for Sonelgaz International’s expertise, noting strong interest from nations like Côte d’Ivoire and Mozambique. These projects align with broader energy programs Sonelgaz aims to implement, leveraging technical expertise and efficiency to meet African energy needs.

Sonelgaz International is set to become a key driver for both public and private Algerian enterprises, fostering collaboration in project execution and integrating national skills and companies into Africa’s evolving energy landscape. Adjal pointed out that the initiative strengthens Algeria’s commitment to fostering South-South cooperation, as outlined by the President of the Republic.

Earlier this year, Algeria and Chad signed an agreement for the construction of the N’Djamena power plant, reinforcing bilateral ties and supporting Chad‘s energy infrastructure development.
