By late June 2026, the access road construction for the Malombo bridge over the Nyong River in Nyong-et-Kellé has entered its final phase. Following the roadway completion, CFHEC crews have now turned to installing road signage while drainage improvements continue.
The access roads, spanning 960 meters across both riverbanks, feature a dual-carriageway design with two 3.5-meter lanes and 1.5-meter shoulders on each side. The road structure includes a 25cm laterite foundation layer, a 20cm crushed gravel base, and a 5cm bituminous wearing course.
The Nyong River bridge itself is also nearing completion, with finishing touches being applied to the 160-meter structure. Public Works officials confirm the bridge will be delivered ahead of schedule—approximately eight months early—thanks to sustained progress despite challenging conditions.
Overcoming obstacles such as site selection disputes, workforce acclimatization, fuel theft, community resistance, and severe flooding, the CFHEC team maintained its commitment to the project timeline set by the Ministry of Public Works. Site security challenges and delayed payments further tested the resolve of the construction crews, yet none of these impediments prevented the project from advancing as planned.
The bridge’s steel-concrete composite design, featuring completed spans, is now ready to serve local communities, with final signage and road markings the last remaining tasks before handover. The project, overseen by the General Engineering consortium alongside INTEGC, reflects the dedication of both the contractor and the supervisory team throughout the construction period.
