SDF leader Joshua Osih demands no further delays for Cameroon elections

During a press conference on July 23, SDF president Joshua Osih urged the government to adhere strictly to the electoral calendar. To compel the RDPC-led administration to organize elections promptly, he has called on all opposition parties, regardless of political leanings, to unite behind this critical national demand.

«Elections must proceed. No further postponements. The electoral calendar belongs to the people, not the government. I urge the entire opposition to form a unified front on this vital issue,» Osih declared. So far, his appeal has not elicited any response from opposition figures.

This call comes months after municipal and legislative elections were postponed. The government cited financial, logistical, and security constraints as reasons for the delays. The National Assembly approved the government’s bill, and President Paul Biya’s decree formalizing the postponement took effect in June 2026, extending terms until February 2027.

Government cites constraints behind election delays

The administration has justified the postponements by highlighting financial, logistical, and security challenges, as well as the need to reorganize the electoral calendar.
