Ousmane Sonko renews censure threat against Al Aminou Lô’s government

Addressing a public assembly in Touba this Sunday, Ousmane Sonko, the President of the National Assembly, delivered a stark warning to Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô, once again brandishing the potential for a motion of censure against his administration. Sonko, as the prominent leader of Pastef, whose party commands a substantial parliamentary majority, underscored that this potent constitutional mechanism remains at his disposal should the prevailing circumstances necessitate its activation.

It bears recalling that the National Assembly President had previously issued multiple admonitions, making it clear that no “blank check” would be extended to the executive branch, while concurrently affirming his reluctance to deploy this prerogative merely to “orchestrate institutional chaos.” However, his recent declarations in Touba signify an undeniable hardening of his stance, set against a backdrop of heightened tensions marked by the annulment of the constitutional revision and his forthright criticisms directed at President Diomaye Faye.
