Ousmane Sonko says Pastef bodies will decide on Diomaye Faye’s exclusion when time comes

In Senegal, President Diomaye Faye faces accusations from his own party, Pastef, of betraying the ideals that brought him to power. As calls for his exclusion grow louder, Ousmane Sonko addressed the matter during an interview on Monday, June 15. He cautioned that the situation will be assessed when the time is right, insisting there will be no rush.
“It will be assessed when the time comes. I believe Pastef is very structured and organized. It has statutes, and those statutes clearly outline the procedures to follow, the grievances to present, and whether exclusion of someone is warranted. The party will decide. The party is not me—it is the bodies that will judge when the moment arrives,” Sonko stated, adding that “we are not there yet.”
When asked if he believes Diomaye Faye has “betrayed” Pastef’s political project, Sonko refrained from using that word. “Concepts of betrayal belong more to morality and emotion. I prefer to take a political stance. I consider that today, many of the commitments we made to the Senegalese people are not being honored, and there is no will to respect them. But I am not operating on an emotional level. Betrayal—I leave that to morality,” he concluded.
