Paris anticipates champions league final: heightened security and alternative celebration plans for psg victory

As Paris Saint-Germain prepares to face Arsenal in the Champions League final in Budapest this coming Saturday, anticipation is building across the French capital. While thousands of fervent PSG supporters will gather at the Parc des Princes fan zone and in local bars to watch the crucial match, a significant decision has been made regarding potential victory celebrations: there will be no traditional parade down the Champs-Élysées the day after the final.

The evening of May 30th is set to be exceptionally busy in the greater Paris region, with several concerts scheduled alongside the Champions League final. This confluence of events is expected to draw between 150,000 and 200,000 people into the city’s streets, whether for football, tennis, or musical performances. Consequently, the Police Prefecture is implementing an extensive security operation across the capital. The entire weekend is poised to be a demanding period for internal security forces.

Starting at 5 PM on Friday, traffic restrictions will be in effect until Sunday morning. The Police Prefecture of Paris has established a broad security perimeter covering much of the 8th arrondissement. Within a more confined area, parking will be prohibited along the entirety of the Champs-Élysées and several surrounding avenues, including Avenue Montaigne. These traffic bans will also extend to other parts of the capital, such as the 16th and 17th arrondissements. However, pedestrian access will remain permitted throughout these zones.

Around the Parc des Princes, where PSG is organizing a dedicated fan zone, law enforcement agencies will deploy a standard matchday security setup. Last year, this enclosed and secure fan zone proved to be a highly successful aspect of the Champions League final experience.

Champ de Mars considered for celebrations

As in previous seasons, authorities are meticulously planning for all potential outcomes during security meetings. Should PSG emerge victorious on Saturday night, officials are coordinating with the Parisian club to prepare for Sunday’s celebrations. According to various reliable reports, the customary parade on the Champs-Élysées will not take place this year, a decision ultimately confirmed by the 8th arrondissement’s city hall on Sunday evening. In 2025, these festivities attracted an estimated 110,000 people to the iconic avenue. Behind the scenes, the 8th arrondissement’s city hall had already communicated this message to local business owners.

An alternative location is now emerging as a strong possibility: the Champ de Mars, situated in the 7th arrondissement of the capital. “This option is being actively considered,” admitted a well-informed source, though declining to provide further specifics. Indeed, it appears to be the preferred choice for all involved parties. The Police Prefecture of Paris intends to request traffic and parking prohibitions around the Champ de Mars from 10 PM on Saturday, May 30th, until 8 PM on Sunday, May 31st, to ensure the smooth execution of a “festive event.” If this plan solidifies, Luis Enrique’s players, following last season’s celebration near the Arc de Triomphe, could capture an iconic victory photograph with the Eiffel Tower as their backdrop. This image holds significant value, contributing to the international prestige of both France and PSG, and is considered vital for any post-victory festivities.

When contacted, Paris Saint-Germain stated that the club is currently “fully focused on preparing for the events organized on May 30th, the day of the Final.” Furthermore, the club clarified that, at present, “no decision has been made and no announcement is planned” regarding post-match celebrations following Saturday night’s game in Hungary. “Should the need arise, organizational matters will be thoroughly coordinated with the relevant authorities,” the capital club confirmed.
