Presnel Kimpembe reflects on the transfer that signaled his departure from PSG
A true product of the club’s academy, Presnel Kimpembe experienced every challenge during the QSI era with Paris Saint-Germain. His tenure culminated in a magnificent triumph with a Champions League victory. The Parisian youth product now reveals that the arrival of Willian Pacho quickly made it clear his time at PSG was drawing to a close.

In 2024, Paris Saint-Germain made a significant move, investing €40 million to secure Willian Pacho from Eintracht Frankfurt. The intention was unmistakable: the Ecuadorian international was brought to Paris to forge a formidable central defensive partnership with Marquinhos. This acquisition naturally had a profound impact on Presnel Kimpembe, who also operates as a left-sided central defender. The former Parisian, now plying his trade in Qatar, recounted the moment Luis Enrique informed him of the club’s plan to sign a player for his specific position.
Pacho’s arrival prompted Kimpembe’s exit
“It wasn’t a devastating blow, no. Not really, because I understood I was nearing the end of my journey. I always dedicated myself fully to achieve success and reach my objectives. The situation had become increasingly complex, yet that never deterred me from working diligently, striving to return to my peak performance at the opportune moment. The culmination of this story, ending with a Champions League triumph, is truly incredible. I would have preferred to depart as a key player actively contributing on the pitch. However, leaving with that trophy in hand felt like the ultimate way to express my gratitude to everyone,” he shared in a recent interview.

The defender, who honed his skills within the Paris Saint-Germain academy, also spoke about the slight undercurrent of frustration he experienced, despite the elation of the Champions League victory. “There was immense joy and happiness. Yet, internally, a small sense of frustration lingered. I wished I could have been one of the primary figures on the field. While I know I played a vital role within the team and the club, not being on the pitch adds a unique dimension to the feeling,” Presnel Kimpembe further explained.
