Having been elected as party president on February 21, Raphaël Edzang is prepared to formally take control of the Rassemblement pour le Gabon (RPG) on Saturday, June 27. The handover ceremony will take place at the party’s central offices located in the Petit Paris district of Libreville, marking a new chapter for the organization established by Paul Mba Abessole.

The investiture event will provide a platform for the incoming leader to present his strategic vision, establish objectives for the coming years, and offer perspectives on significant national issues currently affecting the country.

« The RPG represents change, and that change begins today », is the fresh mantra adopted by the new leadership team as they take over from the outgoing administration of Laurent Angué Mezui.

With this new slogan, the party’s new leader intends to inject fresh energy into the political movement. His focus remains on integrity, national development, and aligning the party more closely with the daily concerns and hopes of the citizens.

Raphaël Edzang is determined to restore the RPG’s status as a major political player and a source of constructive policy proposals within the national arena.

An economist by training, Raphaël Edzang is a senior civil servant who was born on October 25, 1970, in Ellelem 1, situated in the Woleu Ntem province. His professional background includes a notable tenure at the General Directorate of Public Procurement (DGMP), where he served as the Director of Public Procurement.

His journey with the RPG began in 2009 when he served as a special advisor to the party’s president. Since then, he has remained a steadfast member, representing the party as a candidate in the legislative elections of 2011, 2018, 2023, and 2025.

The RPG was founded in the late 1990s by Paul Mba Abessole following the split of the Rassemblement national des bucherons (RNB). Historically, it stood as a powerful opposition force before eventually joining the presidential majority during the era of President Omar Bongo Ondimba.
