Senegal’s transport minister defends touba against sonko’s allegations

The Minister of Land and Air Transport, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye, has strongly refuted claims made by opposition leader Ousmane Sonko regarding Touba. Speaking on national television, he condemned Sonko’s remarks as a profound disrespect toward the holy city, its residents, and the spiritual values of the Mouride brotherhood.

« Suggesting that Touba could be a haven for ill-gotten gains betrays a complete misunderstanding of its sacred purpose and the dignity of its people, » Ndiaye stated. He emphasized that the citizens of Touba, renowned for their adherence to the teachings of Serigne Touba, cannot be reduced to mere accomplices in financial crimes. The minister also pointed to the absence of key local leaders during Sonko’s visit as a clear sign of rejection of his narrative.

support for presidential leadership and national unity

Ndiaye praised President Bassirou Diomaye Faye for his unwavering commitment to addressing the concerns of Touba’s population. « The President deeply values Touba and its people, working tirelessly to meet their needs, » he asserted. The minister also voiced strong support for Prime Minister Mouhamadou Al Amine Lo, praising his efforts to resolve long-standing issues under the President’s guidance.

In a broader message to the nation, Ndiaye urged Senegalese citizens to rise above political divisions and focus on the country’s development and the well-being of its people. He expressed full confidence in President Faye, describing him as an unyielding patriot dedicated to steering Senegal toward progress and prosperity. « Despite relentless criticism, his sole mission remains serving the nation and fulfilling the aspirations of its people, » he concluded.
