Strategic partnership between Morocco and uae drives economic growth
Relations between Morocco and the United Arab Emirates exemplify a dynamic model of strategic cooperation, rooted in deep historical ties established by the late King Hassan II and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. These bonds are strengthened by aligned visions, reciprocal political backing, and a diversified economic partnership that addresses pressing global challenges.
On June 2, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, hosted King Mohammed VI at his residence in Rabat for a private meeting. The closed-door discussions focused on regional stability—particularly developments in the Gulf and Middle East—while reinforcing the unbreakable personal and diplomatic ties between the two leaders. The encounter underscored their long-standing commitment to mutual consultation, even as the world faces escalating geopolitical tensions.
A landmark agreement signed in December 2023 formalized this alliance, aiming to elevate bilateral ties beyond traditional diplomacy. The framework prioritizes sustainable investments, cross-sector collaboration, and shared prosperity. As outlined in official statements, the partnership thrives on mutual trust, translating into concrete initiatives that merge Morocco’s industrial potential with the UAE’s financial strength.
Key areas of focus include high-impact projects backed by innovative financing models—public-private partnerships, strategic investment funds, and targeted capital deployment. Food security has emerged as a priority, with joint ventures exploring Morocco’s Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP) for fertilizer production. Tourism and real estate development along the Mediterranean coast, as well as in Dakhla and Tarfaya, are also set for expansion, complementing reconstruction efforts in Al Haouz following the devastating earthquake.
On the geopolitical front, Morocco has consistently aligned itself with Gulf allies. During recent regional tensions involving Iran, the country unequivocally condemned attacks targeting UAE infrastructure. King Mohammed VI’s solidarity with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during a critical phone call highlighted Morocco’s role as a steadfast partner in preserving regional security.
