Tchad: court confirms 20-year prison sentence for succès masra
The Supreme Court in N’Djamena has finalized the 20-year prison sentence for Succès Masra, leader of the political party Les Transformateurs, bringing an end to the legal proceedings against him.
On Thursday, the court upheld the verdict handed down on August 9, 2025, dismissing the appeal filed by the former Prime Minister. This decision, which cannot be further appealed within the national judicial system, marks the conclusion of a high-profile case that has gripped the nation.
Key Charges and Verdict
Succès Masra and over 70 co-defendants were convicted on multiple counts, including the dissemination of racist and xenophobic messages, criminal association, and complicity in murder. These charges stem from the Mandakao massacre, a violent incident that left deep scars on the country’s social fabric.
The defense team, led by lawyer Kadjilembaye Francis, argued vigorously for acquittal, but the Supreme Court justices remained unconvinced. With no further domestic appeals possible, the former government official must now serve his full sentence unless granted a presidential pardon.
Political and Legal Repercussions
Representatives of Les Transformateurs have condemned the ruling as unjust and politically motivated, vowing to explore all available legal avenues. According to legal experts, the only remaining options for Masra involve pursuing justice at regional or international tribunals.
