One hundred and sixty-two Chadian nationals have arrived in N’Djamena after departing Benghazi in eastern Libya, as part of a voluntary return operation coordinated by the Chadian government with assistance from the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This initiative comes alongside a sensitisation campaign aimed at educating migrants about residency regulations in Libya and the hazards associated with irregular migration routes.

A group of 162 Chadian citizens landed in N’Djamena through a voluntary return programme organised from Benghazi. The effort was led by the Chadian government via its consulate general in Benghazi, with support from the IOM. This measure is part of ongoing actions by Chadian authorities to assist nationals facing difficulties while abroad.

An awareness drive targeting the Chadian community

During this operation, consular staff conducted information sessions for Chadian nationals living in Benghazi. Discussions covered the legal framework governing foreigners’ stay in Libya and the risks of irregular migration. The stated goal is to better inform members of the Chadian community to reduce vulnerability and encourage compliance with existing regulations. Chadian authorities present this repatriation as one of several efforts to protect citizens living overseas. They indicate that further support operations may be organised with international partners to address the needs of Chadians settled abroad.
