A new dynamic for Gabon’s rpg party
Yesterday afternoon, the women of the Rassemblement pour le Gabon (RPG) set a vibrant tone, signaling the heightened activity expected from the party. They convened to actively implement the directives issued by the RPG’s newly appointed president, Raphaël Edzang. Following his official investiture on Saturday, June 27, Edzang had extensively outlined his vision for infusing fresh momentum into the party, aiming to restore its vigor. He made no secret of his primary objective: to bring all party structures, including provincial, departmental, and district councils, back into full operational alignment.
This comprehensive restructuring effort represents the initial formidable challenge for ensuring the party’s long-term dynamism. Edzang acknowledged that the RPG had encountered “a few minor issues” in recent years, which had significantly hampered its functionality. However, the task at hand is met with a profound sense of hope shared by the dedicated militants. A genuine enthusiasm, palpable during the recent congress and at his investiture ceremony, serves as a clear indicator that “the RPG is making a comeback.”
Yet, this ambitious return requires substantial mobilization of grassroots support and widespread awareness campaigns addressing the various themes championed by this political group. Indeed, as his four-year mandate commences, a comprehensive three-stage program is currently being rolled out.
The first phase involved a thorough review of the party’s foundational texts to ensure their relevance within the current political climate. This reorganization also aimed to establish a balanced distribution of power among decision-making bodies. The second stage will focus on updating the party’s core societal platform, shifting the emphasis from aspirational slogans like “school as a gift, hospital as a gift, work for all, and land for all” to the practical implementation and feasibility of these promises.
To achieve this, extensive information and public awareness campaigns will be launched. These initiatives will educate citizens on the practical steps required to realize truly free healthcare and education, to effectively eliminate unemployment, and to ensure universal access to land.
“The RPG is back, and it’s achievable,” Raphaël Edzang affirmed.
