Algeria and Niger strengthen energy and security ties in Niamey meeting
Algeria’s Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, held high-level talks with Niger’s President, General Abdourahamane Tiani, in Niamey on Wednesday. The meeting centered on deepening bilateral relations and accelerating joint initiatives.
Prime Minister Ghrieb conveyed the warmest greetings from Algeria’s President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reaffirming Algeria’s commitment to strengthening solidarity and cooperation between the two nations.
Major power plant project takes shape ahead of schedule
During the discussions, both leaders reviewed the progress of ongoing collaborations and assessed the implementation of agreements reached during President Tiani’s visit to Algeria in February. They also discussed outcomes from the second session of the Algerian-Nigerien Joint High Commission, held in Niamey last March.
President Tiani expressed deep appreciation for President Tebboune’s leadership, highlighting Algeria’s decisive support in fast-tracking the construction of a power plant—a landmark achievement that underscores the strength of their partnership. He emphasized the shared determination to build a robust, diversified alliance that serves the mutual interests of both nations and their people’s aspirations for greater integration and development.
A shining example of South-South cooperation
President Tiani praised the rapid pace of bilateral projects, calling the Algerian-Nigerien partnership a model for South-South cooperation. He stressed the sincere commitment he shares with President Tebboune to elevate their relationship to new heights.
Prime Minister Ghrieb echoed this sentiment, commending the swift progress in cooperation and the transition into a new phase of joint political action and tangible project execution. He credited the success to strong leadership and consistent follow-through on the agreed roadmap.
Regional peace and stability at the forefront of discussions
Ghrieb reaffirmed Algeria’s dedication to enhancing bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure, healthcare, education, digital technology, and transportation. He emphasized the importance of advancing strategic projects that foster economic growth and regional integration.
The leaders also reviewed trade and economic cooperation programs, stressing the need to expedite their implementation to bolster development and integration. On a regional level, they addressed shared challenges and pledged continued coordination to promote peace, security, and stability in the Sahel.
