In a significant diplomatic engagement, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb was welcomed in Niamey on Wednesday by the President of the Republic of Niger, General of the Army Abdourahamane Tiani. During their meeting, Prime Minister Ghrieb conveyed the warm fraternal greetings from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, along with President Tebboune’s personal commitment to fortifying the bonds of brotherhood, solidarity, and cooperation between the two sister nations.

This pivotal discussion provided an opportunity to comprehensively review various facets of bilateral cooperation. Both leaders assessed the progress made in implementing the outcomes from President Abdourahamane Tiani’s visit to Algeria last February, as well as the results of his previous talks with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Furthermore, the two high-level delegations addressed the specific projects and programs that were agreed upon during the 2nd session of the Grand Algerian-Nigerien Joint Cooperation Commission, which convened in Niamey this past March.

During the audience, President Abdourahamane Tiani expressed his profound respect for President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He extended gratitude for President Tebboune’s dedicated focus on bilateral cooperation, which notably facilitated the swift completion of the electricity plant project in record time. This achievement, he noted, underscores the deep fraternal and solidarity bonds between Algeria and Niger, reflecting the leaders’ shared determination to forge a robust and diversified partnership. Such a partnership is designed to serve their mutual interests and fulfill the aspirations of their respective peoples for enhanced solidarity, regional integration, and sustainable development.

President Tiani further commended the accelerated pace of progress witnessed in bilateral cooperation projects and programs. He highlighted the exceptional momentum defining Algerian-Nigerien relations as a prime example of successful South-South cooperation. President Tiani reiterated his genuine commitment, shared with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to elevate relations between the two nations to their highest potential.

On his part, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb lauded the remarkable level of cooperation achieved between Algeria and Niger in a relatively short period. He emphasized the transition into a new phase marked by joint political commitment and the tangible realization of agreed-upon cooperation projects on the ground. This progress, he stated, is a direct result of the high-level directives from both countries’ leaders and their dedication to ensuring consistent and rigorous oversight of the jointly established roadmap.

Mr. Sifi Ghrieb reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in critical sectors. These priority areas include energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure development, healthcare, professional training, higher education, digital transformation, and transportation. Algeria also pledged continued monitoring and successful implementation of structural projects across the region, aimed at fostering economic development and bolstering regional integration.

The discussions also encompassed the oversight of commercial and economic cooperation programs, alongside strategic regional projects. Both delegations underscored the imperative to accelerate the pace of implementation for these initiatives, thereby supporting economic growth and enhancing regional integration.

Addressing the regional landscape, both parties thoroughly reviewed current challenges. They emphasized the importance of ongoing bilateral consultation and coordination to effectively tackle these issues, ultimately contributing to the strengthening of peace, security, and stability across the region.
