Strengthening diplomatic ties: Azerbaijan and Morocco enhance parliamentary cooperation

During the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, Sahibé Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, held a productive meeting with Mohamed Ghayate, Vice-President of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco. The discussions focused on the growing synergy between the two nations’ legislative bodies and their shared vision for regional stability.

Both officials expressed high satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations, noting that the partnership between Azerbaijan and Morocco is built on a solid foundation of mutual respect. This political bond has flourished through consistent support and solidarity within various international platforms, where both countries frequently align their positions on global issues.

The impact of legislative diplomacy

The conversation highlighted the vital role that interparliamentary cooperation plays in cementing broader diplomatic links. Sahibé Gafarova reflected on her successful official visit to Morocco, emphasizing that direct engagement between lawmakers is essential for fostering deeper understanding. She noted that active friendship groups within both parliaments serve as critical bridges for ongoing dialogue.

Furthermore, a memorandum of understanding signed earlier this year was identified as a pivotal milestone. This agreement provides a strategic framework for future collaboration, opening new avenues for the two legislatures to work more closely together on shared priorities.

Global cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement

The meeting also touched upon the effective partnership between Azerbaijan and Morocco within international parliamentary organizations. A specific point of pride was their joint efforts within the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement. Morocco continues to be a prominent and active participant in the network’s conferences, demonstrating a strong commitment to the organization’s objectives and its role in promoting South-South cooperation.
