With Robert Lewandowski’s departure, FC Barcelona is already making significant moves to secure his replacement. Multiple sources confirm that the Catalan giants have set their sights firmly on Anthony Gordon.

The talented Newcastle winger, who also possesses the versatility to operate in a central attacking role, is expected to be officially announced by both clubs in the very near future.

An 80 million euro transfer deal for Barcelona

FC Barcelona wasted no time in the transfer market. Fresh off clinching the league title, the club has swiftly identified and moved for Robert Lewandowski’s successor.

Earlier this week, reports indicated that Barcelona’s management successfully reached an agreement with Newcastle for a substantial fee of 80 million euros, plus additional bonuses.

This information was further corroborated by transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, underscoring the certainty of the deal.

Furthermore, Barcelona has reportedly already secured an agreement on personal terms with the 25-year-old English international. Gordon has been a long-standing target for the club, with his pursuit spearheaded by coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco. Both figures are known admirers of the player, who began his football journey at Liverpool, rose to prominence at Everton, and ultimately shone brightly at St James’ Park.

He was observed in Barcelona on Thursday, accompanied by his agents and family, to undergo his mandatory medical examination. As anticipated, he successfully completed the assessment without any issues.

From a performance standpoint, the English forward enjoyed a highly impactful season with Newcastle, tallying an impressive 17 goals and 5 assists across 46 appearances in all competitions. Notably, he netted 10 goals in just 12 Champions League matches.

Gordon’s distinct profile for Barcelona’s attack

This past season saw Lamine Yamal emerge as the Blaugrana’s leading scorer, with Ferran Torres also playing a pivotal role in Hansi Flick’s successful campaign.

Despite being 37, Robert Lewandowski still contributed a respectable 19 goals in 46 games. Anthony Gordon, however, offers a different dimension. He is a versatile player capable of operating centrally, though he typically thrives on the left wing, cutting in on his dominant foot.

For the left flank, Barcelona specifically sought a profile that could inject pace, directness, and a high-intensity pressing game into their attacking strategy.

The club’s pursuit of Marcus Rashford remains a complex matter. While a 30 million euro buyout clause is active until June 15, which is less than the Gordon deal, his substantial salary demands pose a challenge to Joan Laporta’s financial plans.

Nevertheless, this does not rule out the possibility of the Manchester United winger playing in Spain next season.

Two primary options are on the table for Rashford: a renegotiated loan agreement or a permanent transfer with a reduced salary package. Beyond these two English talents, Barcelona is also reportedly keeping a close eye on Julian Alvarez. These potential reinforcements aim to solidify their hold on La Liga, following their impressive second consecutive title victory this season.
