Our Bénin U20 women’s national team, affectionately known as the Amazones, pulled off a fantastic result this Saturday while visiting Côte d’Ivoire. They managed a 1-1 draw against the home team, the Éléphantes, which is a huge step forward for them before the second leg!

An intense showdown in Abidjan

The highly anticipated match between Côte d’Ivoire’s and Bénin’s rising female football stars certainly delivered! It was a super physical game, with both teams giving it their all from start to finish. In the end, neither side could claim victory in this first leg of the qualifiers.

Right from the whistle, the Ivorian squad, cheered on by their home crowd, really tried to dictate the pace. But our Amazones U20 showed incredible resilience with their tactical setup. Even when the home side managed to score first, our young Béninoises absolutely refused to give up.

Showing real character

Talk about mental toughness! Our Amazones fought back with serious determination to level the score. Getting an away goal like that is super important in knockout tournaments – it often turns out to be the golden ticket to the next round.

The 1-1 final score truly shows how evenly matched these teams were. Still, the Bénin coaching staff’s squad can definitely feel proud, knowing they’ve done some of the hardest work by avoiding a loss in Abidjan.

Next stop: the home leg in Bénin!

Now, it all comes down to the return match on our home turf. This draw puts our Amazones U20 in a really good spot. A goalless draw (0-0) or, even better, a win in the second leg would be enough to send Bénin soaring into the next round!
