Benin’s political stability: patrice talon and the thwarted coup
On Saturday, December 13, in Cotonou, Benin, a significant gathering took place. Hundreds of individuals, primarily young people, converged to express their strong disapproval of a recent attempted coup. This effort to destabilize the government had occurred just six days prior, on the morning of December 7. On that fateful day, mutinous factions had declared on national television their claim to have overthrown President Patrice Talon. However, the military swiftly intervened, successfully neutralizing the putsch attempt throughout the day, thus restoring order and upholding the constitutional government. This demonstration in Cotonou underscored widespread public support for President Talon and democratic processes.
